Acts 29 - Mission Trip

What is the Acts 29 Trip?
Five years ago we felt called to lead a mission trip to help our brothers and sisters in need within the United States. Thus the trip began in 2007 with 16 people going to Biloxi, Mississippi. There we helped re-build homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. We continued to go to the Gulf Coast for four more years.

Why is it called Acts 29?
Five years ago, Pastor Peter preached a sermon titled Acts 29. He shared how the book of Acts is the story of the beginnings of the church. In Acts 1:8, Jesus says, "And you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth." There is no chapter 29 in the book of Acts. God’s people are the witnesses and are still writing the story each and every day. We decided this would be a great name for our mission trip.

What are the details of the trip?
For the second year in a row, Act 29 Mission trip will be going to Minot, North Dakota. The dates of the trip are July 21-27.

In the summer of 2011, Minot was devastated by flooding-25 percent of Minot’s houses were destroyed and over 11.000 people were evacuated. Even though the flooding happened two years ago, there are still many houses that need re-hab work, so that their owners can move home.

We will be staying and working through Hope Village. Check out their website at www.hopevillagend.org. The trip is open to persons age 16 years and older and to all skill levels.

If you are interested in this trip, stop by the narthex tables on the weekends of April 6/7 or April 13/14 for more information. Also, an informational meeting will be held on Sunday, April 14 at 12:15 pm.

The Acts 29 team meets families and works daily with them on their homes. Each day the team goes to the homes to repair damage, but an important part of the trip is also getting to talk to the families and getting to know them on a personal level. Members of the team get to know each other by working together, traveling to and from the job sites, having devotions and hanging out together.
